Lighting and Live Video

My work as a Production Assistant at Renaissance Church has given me much experience in many areas of production from Lighting, Audio and Video, to team leading and AV system maintenance. Chief among the tasks that I have had has been Lighting and Video Direction.

I design the lights for each week's services and fill in a position elsewhere. Sometimes it is mixing audio, producing and calling the transitions, or in the case of these examples switch and direct cameras from Video Village.

Main Equipment used:

ETC Ion XE lighting desk, and Roland V1200HDR Video Switcher

Light it Up

For these clips, I designed the light cues, then for the service a volunteer was running the board while

I directed and switched the cameras. These are some of my designs.

DIY Stage Redesign

A much morę recent design where we redesigned the stage. I had moved two of the moving lights to trusses on the extreme ends of the stage and constructed the LED Tape trees out of spare wood and metal gutter that I painted black. The control date was run with thermostat wire from DMX decoders backstage.

"With midi slides": WHat's that about?

The MIDI slides were a project that I headed up when we went through a time of low volunteer depth. Originally, the lyrics were operated by a volunteer at a computer running ProPresenter. It became necessary to trim some fat on the tech team.

Ableton

We run backing tracks out of Ableton Live, and Ableton supports sending MIDI commands over a network. For each worship song, an extra track was added to send MIDI commands over the Control subnet to ProPresenter, which can receive MIDI commands to advance slides, as well as other functions.

ProPresenter

We set up ProPresenter to receive the commands and advance slides automatically during worship, therefore freeing up a position for volunteers to be used elsewhere. Now the only time a person needs to operate slides is during sections that don't involve worship, and this responsibility falls to the Producer, who is still free to oversee the rest of the weekly production
